Mekeel Christian Academy is committed to providing an excellent education that is firmly rooted in God's word. We strive to equip our students for success through high quality programs in academics, athletics, fine arts, leadership, and spiritual training. This has been and will continue to be a result of the partnering with those who have contributed their time, talents, and resources to develop the next generation for Christ.

Mekeel Christian Academy, formerly Schenectady Christian School (SCS), was started from the sacrifice and commitment of Christian and community leaders. This legacy has been the defining characteristic of our mission and our growth as an independent Christian college preparatory institution. Mekeel Christian Academy has been blessed with support from community members, faculty, alumni, parents, former parents, grandparents, and Christian ministries. Being faithful to God in our stewardship of these resources has allowed the school to thrive and has positioned us for continued excellence in the future. We believe this is God's school and we love being part of His plans for an exciting future for our students and families.

TYPES OF GIFTS

  • General Tuition Assistance Fund:  Each year assistance is given to deserving families who cannot afford to attend Mekeel without help.  This is made possible by the support of many people through our Tuition Assistance Fund.

  • Yetta Relyea Scholarship Fund: This fund was created to honor the memory of Mrs. Yetta Pennington Relyea. Yetta committed thirty years of her life to Mekeel Christian Academy, formerly Schenectady Christian School. Yetta was an elementary classroom teacher, resource room teacher, girls cheerleading coach, and class advisor. Yetta's passion was to see each student achieve his/her individual best and to see Christian education as a financial possibility for every family taht desires it! This passion was evidenced by her quote, "Don't be cheap; there are some great kids who need the help!" Friends of Yetta's have already donated over $9,000 for this scholarship fund. This fund will be distributed under the umbrella of the Tuition Assistance Fund to a student who demonstrates financial need and academic success.

  • Designated and Undesignated: Gifts of any size may be given with designation to a specific area or may be given to the general operating fund.  These gifts help to bridge the gap between the actual cost of educating students and the amount collected in tuition.

  • Pledges: Pledges are gifts made over time through incremental payments. Determine the amount of your gift and we will help arrange payment amounts with a timeline to help you reach your goal. This process can be automated for convenient monthly electronic withdrawals.

  • Gifts in Kind: Giving goods or services to the school including donations of supplies, books, equipment, furnishings, software, etc., can be used as a tax write-off.  This is a great way to help the school if you own your own business.

  • Company Matching Gifts: Many companies have matching gift programs in which the company matches gifts made by employees. Please check with your employer to see if they provide this opportunity.

  • Planned Giving: These gifts are a part of your investment strategy and help you meet your philanthropic and financial goals while including Mekeel Christian Academy.

  • Stocks/Securities: Giving appreciated stocks and mutual funds will allow for a charitable deduction for the present fair market value. There will be no capital gains tax on the appreciation.

  • Real Estate and Personal Property: Give with the school’s future in mind. You can give personal property or real estate with marketable value to Mekeel Christian Academy.

  • 1976 Society: Members of the 1976 Society are those individuals whose gifts to MCA (SCS) from 1976 – the present school year total $100,000 and above. The 1976 Society will also recognize those individuals who have made irrevocable planned gifts – such as charitable trusts or charitable gift annuities.
